Traditionally, it has been used to support fertility, especially in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and has applications in managing metabolic and neurological conditions. Its use in fertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), has gained prominence due to its ability to improve ovulation and hormonal balance. Additionally, myo-inositol has been explored for benefits in insulin resistance, gestational diabetes prevention, and mood regulation.12

Forms and Variations

Myo-inositol supplements are commonly available in oral powder or capsule forms. The two most prevalent forms in supplements are myo-inositol itself and D-chiro-inositol, another stereoisomer. Beyond metabolic and reproductive health, myo-inositol supports mental health by balancing neurotransmitters, reducing anxiety, depression, and cognitive fog, especially in PCOS patients. It may also contribute to cardiovascular health by improving blood pressure and lipid profiles.123

Side Effects and Risks

Myo-inositol is generally well tolerated with a low risk of adverse effects. Common side effects, if they occur, include mild nausea, fatigue, dizziness, and insomnia.
